Broadcast Writing and Reporting

Written assignment #1 taught me how to write a professional promo script that uses active voice. This promo was written for WMCO to potentially be used live on air. This assignment also taught me how to use the AIDA formula (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) while writing a script. The main focus of my promo was to inform people about what WMCO runs on air and some of the things they’re driven by. Another key aspect that I wanted in my promo was for it to sound simple and clean but to get the point across. This written assignment overall helped me learn more about the ins and outs of Rundown creator, how to write a script while staying in active voice, and use the AIDA formula.

Written assignment #2 taught me how to write a radio news story script that would be read live. I learned to write three different types of leads for these stories. The first one that you will read is a “New Story”, the second lead is a “Second-Day”, and the third lead is a “Perspective.” While writing each story I learned something new and different. I also learned to use proper structure essentials when writing these news story scripts. This assignment overall helped me a better understanding of how to write for live radio, the importance of proper emphasis or pronunciation of names, and strengthen my knowledge of how to use Rundown creator the most efficient way.
